Board of Directors Roles

About the Board

The NEACOL Board of Directors provides governance, strategic direction, and fiduciary oversight for the organization. Board members are volunteers committed to NEACOL's mission of improving the lives of Colombian children through targeted grants and community engagement.

Chair

Currently: Ricardo A. Rodriguez
  • Leads and facilitates all Board meetings and sets the agenda in coordination with the Executive Committee.
  • Serves as the primary spokesperson for the Board and represents NEACOL at external events and meetings.
  • Works closely with committee chairs to ensure organizational goals are being met.
  • Signs official documents on behalf of the Board together with the Treasurer.
  • Oversees the annual organizational review and strategic planning process.

President

Executive leadership of the organization
  • Provides day-to-day executive leadership and is responsible for the overall management of NEACOL.
  • Ensures the Board's decisions and strategic plan are implemented effectively.
  • Acts as liaison between the Board of Directors and the committee structure.
  • Leads the annual fundraising strategy in conjunction with the Fundraising Committee.
  • Represents NEACOL publicly and fosters relationships with partners, donors, and the Colombian-American community.

Vice President

Supports and deputizes the President
  • Supports the President in all executive duties and assumes leadership in the President's absence.
  • Oversees specific strategic initiatives as assigned by the President and Board.
  • Actively participates in fundraising and community outreach efforts.
  • Ensures committee activities align with organizational strategy.

Treasurer

Currently: Juan G. Pardo
  • Oversees all financial matters of NEACOL, including budgeting, accounting, and financial reporting.
  • Prepares and presents financial reports at each Board meeting.
  • Ensures that all financial obligations are met and that proper financial controls are in place.
  • Coordinates with the external accountant for the preparation of the annual financial statements and IRS Form 990.
  • Ensures compliance with all federal and state nonprofit regulations.
  • Co-signs checks and official financial documents as required.

Secretary

Records and communications
  • Maintains official records and minutes of all Board and organizational meetings.
  • Ensures timely and accurate distribution of meeting notices, agendas, and minutes to Board members.
  • Maintains corporate records including bylaws, meeting minutes, and correspondence.
  • Coordinates Board communications and ensures all members are properly notified of meetings.

Board Member at Large

General governance and community role
  • Actively participates in Board meetings, votes on key organizational decisions, and contributes to strategic planning.
  • Serves as an ambassador for NEACOL within their professional and personal networks.
  • May serve as Chair or member of one or more committees.
  • Contributes expertise in their professional field to advance the organization's mission.
